Bangkok, Christmas, SWO

Bangkok - 20th - 24th Dec
Very enjoyable and relaxing trip that comes half way thru the semester. hahaha! very last minute decision to "disappear"! Depart on the 20th afternoon SQ flight feeling very very shag out because had 3 continuous day of band rehearsal before. Hoped to catch some sleep on the plane but inflight entertainment was such a blast! Whee..!

Seriously, communication was the greatest challenge in Thailand, was almost lost when on the cab heading down to the Service Apartment. Luckily, the reception people was able to guide the taxi driver on the phone. Met up with the kids (a.k.a my cousins) from Korea, yes, my uncle was in Bangkok for conference hence the trip for us to meet up with them.

Went to the old capital of Thailand, Ayuthaya about 2 hours North of Bangkok. Visited the ruins, i didn't get the actual name of the place, and also visited Summer Palace. This is the coolest year in thailand, temperature was at an unusual +- 20 degC. I believe Ayuthaya's temperature was about 18degC. Shivering out in the open! And yes, shopping is a must especially for my Aunts. Besides that, just baby sitting around.

Depart Bangkok on the 24th. Sat alone which really made the return flight a more relaxing one! Because i am sitting away from my another cousin, a rascal (not pictured)I should say, Singapore Airlines does really live up to its name. Great service!

Christmas! Was totally drained out already, but still made an effort to attend church service. And SWO concert on the 26th, One of the best concert so far. Marking the 6th Concert in 2005! 4 of which in VCH! Well.... preparing for Common test now! =)

Human Behavior

Human behave(u)r is the collection of activities performed by human beings and influenced by culture, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics, authority, rapport, hypnosis, persuasion, and/or coercion.

Factors affecting Human Behavior
  • Attitude - Its a degree to which a person has a favorable or unfavorable evaluation of behavior in question
  • Social Norms - This is the influence of social pressure that is perceived by the individual (normative beliefs) to perform or not perform a certain behavior.
  • Perceived Behavioral Control - This construct is defined as the individual's belief concerning how easy or difficult performing the behavior will be.

Source: http://www.psychcentral.com/psypsych/Human_behavior

Random posting of thoughts going on today after "gathering" of Shuqun alumni band members. Somewhat curious to find out the scientific basis of how each individual behaves. And also to justify some actions and remarks made over lunch whether is it being biased, sterotyping (sounds so WISP!) or ________ (can't think of that word).

Something i read and have to agree with - Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear! add on, And Hello will be a difficult word to say! Again, its something random. Bored at home.. =)

tuning systems

ever wondered how complex can tuning an instrument be? finally took the time and effort to seriously search the web about it after a conversation (obviously with someone!) about tuning a band and instrument. i think everyone will have a concept of tuning whereby we either follow a tuning fork, tuner, someone or something that can give a perfect pitch for us to follow.

from what i found out, tuning has become a very mathematical thing where we can actually calculate the frequencies in relation to any note, the different frequencies has a value to it.. blah blah blah...

so there is Equal Temperament, Well Temperament, Mean-tone Temperament and lots of other stuffs. i think it would be pretty cool if you can take some time to browse through this site >Click Me!< to find out about more. Get the gist of it! its too heavy for me to post it. i also having difficulties understanding certain parts of it. if not interested.... hahaa...

Understanding Baroque

Hallo! Guten Morgen! Had discussions on styles of music recently and have realised that many still fail to understand the beauty of Baroque music. Baroque music have always served as the foundation to all music composed for the past 500 years. Even though this period of music is 500 years old and ageing, its still alive in many music we play today.

I have extract some key points from my previous post. To read the full post, scroll down! Its somewhere down this page.

Tempo
- Usually stays the same throughout

Dynamic
- Range in dynamic is narrow
- Terrace dynamic

Style
- Formal, imitative

A few important things to do when you tackle a piece of music, is to firstly determine the period of music that its in.

One thing to note is the tempo of music. As written above, a Baroque music have a relatively fixed tempo throughout, mostly it ends with a BIG retard. So why is this so, you would need to know that Baroque music are written for the Kings and Queens of that time. So music have to sound Grand and Formal, maybe if you were in Europe, you can see the intricate designs of the Cathedral. So music must have fixed tempo to fit the mood. Just imagine yourself walking down the aisle of a church on your wedding day, and the musicians playing pachebel canon with irregular tempo, I bet you will not be able to walk down the aisle with a regular pace. So without realising it, we have covered two points, Tempo and Style!

Tempo always set the mood!

Dynamic are Terrace whereby when a phrase is Forte, it is in Forte and when it is in Piano, it will be in Piano. There will NEVER be a Cresendo or Decresendo in between two phrases to transit the dynamics. Just imagine as music walking up and down a staircase. So the other point about dynamic is narrow is because of the limitation in the dynamic range of instrument of that time, where a Harpsicord or Clavicord only have a small dynamic range thus give this characteristic.

Well there is another point that i want to cover, which is the texture of Baroque. But its kinda hard to explain in words. So till i figure out how it should be written down, enjoy learning and understanding Baroque.

Wired vs Wireless

this is interesting... the whole family is trying to troubleshoot the house wireless network problem while i am enjoying a very safe and reliable connection. Why? because, i am on a wired network.

up till now.. i am still questioning the need to have a wireless network in this tiny house. i understand that its considered high-tech by my parents standards. but still i don't feel the need to. because mainly the computers that uses the network are the desktop which i doubt anyone would like to carry it around the house just to surf Internet anywhere anytime.

its quite ironic because I, a laptop user uses a wired network while my family, the desktop users uses a wireless network. Anyway, its their internet connection to troubleshoot. as long as mine is problem free i am happy with it.

IHP Viva

consider it a job well done. today didn't start off very good, raining like crazy. but still manage to get my butt to school. had this crazy idea of putting on a blazer for presentation because of the cold weather. haha.. but didn't. i didn't even manage to put on my tie in time for presentation. dressing quite slack.

anyway, go school early, finalize the slides and stuffs.. slides looks good. decide to send it for printing. it would be a reference for us, and a supplementary notes for the supervisors and 2nd markers.

20 mins before, had suggest this crazy idea of actually showing Phase 1 of this project. Side track a bit, my partner and I are doing the 2nd Phase of this project. So anyway, rationale for this idea, since we want to present this project, might as well show every damn thing rite? haha... went to get the laptop and try to set up the system. the system didn't work. haha... its impromptu la, so everything was rushed during set up. but still i think the idea was put through to the 2nd markers.

Presentation went on really really well. minor hiccups here and there, as usual. but its okay. comments from supervisors were, its a presentation that went beyond their expectations. A bit on the 2nd markers, both of them are Caucasians, one of them from Aussie the other was from States i think or another Aussie. Think its quite unique to have Caucasians 2nd markers. jus love to talk to Caucasians, it gives you a different perspective about things.

A big relieve, very happy and satisfied about the presentation.

Home Run... (IHP)

last obstacle but a major one to overcome next week. IHP Viva. in the midst of preparing the slides. met up with the supervisors. my idiotic partner didn't turn up despite telling him about it. disappear to work reason being he didn't know what time is the meeting. don't know if he is dumb or acting dumb. it was an oversight not telling him the time, but it was his responsibility to find out the time. i bet he has yet to realise the scale of this whole IHP thinggy. and of course jeopardizing everything in its way. as what the church had preached

Good things happen to Bad People, Bad things happen to Good People

this can't be more true. well... another saying goes

One for all, All for One

my horn section's motto. guess gotta bear all the unwanted shit. Optimistic or pessimistic about things? Shall see how things take its course. too tired to scream and yell at people. don't force me. i will do it if i have to.

***UPDATES***
Presentation slides have been re-done and looking good. totally change the format of topics. will update more on this post.

Jolly well disappear for the past 2 weeks and now tell me that you have submitted your report when its suppose to combine with mine? hello to this idiot.. in the first place did you realise that this is a combine project? argh! Thanks for your idiotic actions okay.. it really "help" alot i mean REALLY "HELP" alot... f*** it alright.. go ahead and enjoy your chalet! bloody fool! only applies to this idiot, i withdraw my statement about attitude problem and declare that you have a serious ATTITUDE PROBLEM! for others, my statement applies k...!

attitude problem

do you have an attitude problem? what really cause attitude problem? do you like to be accuse of having attitude problem? do you accuse people of having attitude problem?

Let's see... defination of attitude.
According to dictionary.com - Attitude is define as A state of mind or a feeling

n 1: a complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in certain ways; "he had the attitude that work was fun" [syn: mental attitude]

My theory is attitude problem is just a difference of attitude between two subject. Lets say.... Person A has a different attitude towards for example a project over Person B then Person A will accuse Person B having attitude problem just because he/she does not have the same working attitude.

But let say Person C is able to compromise with Person B, will Person C ever accuse Person B of having attitude problem?

In my opinion, everybody takes a different attitude towards something, attitude problem arise only when two attitude does not agree. So actually, I can say that attitude problem is not a problem at all. Any second opinion? This two words actually carry NO i mean N.O meaning at all...

So i hope all living human beings living on this polluted earth stop accusing people attitude problem and learn to compromise with each other. ATTITUDE PROBLEM is just part of the foul language family where when people run out of words to scold, they just pick up words from here and hopefully carry on with scolding!

Imagine a Husband takes a different attitude from his Wife when doing say household chores, the husband will accuse the wife "YOU HAVE AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM ISSIT?" and the wife will also go "YOU HAVE AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM ISSIT?" Wow... then i think i shall study to be a lawyer, all couples in the world will start divorcing each other. earning big bucks man.... You see, you don't see this in marriage often, why? because they learn to compromise each other.

So after all this rubbish, let me summarise.. Attitude problem is purely a difference of attitude between two individual!

Anyway, people, you can challenge my theory... jus tag your comments. or you want can call me or email me. I am all ears to it.

Making of a Band

Got this from somewhere, to a certain Extend, its pretty true about what goes into a making of a band. =)

"If instrument doesn't exist,a band won't be formed. But, a band with onli woodwinds, onli a melody is formed. But, it is different, when only a band, is formed with onli brass instrument. A harmony, A melody, will be formed. But when a band is formed with every instrument a perfect band with a perfect music will exist. And that shows us, the harmony of music, the harmony of nature. But, when there is an instrument, without a player, music will be formed by nature.

The music that is formed by nature, is a music that is natural. But,when a music that is formed by a heart of a human. A perfect song will be formed, that will touches the nature's heart. And, with that way, a perfect song, a perfect melody, and a perfect nature will be formed. A band's harmony can be formed, when all hearts are connected, that will touches human's heart. But, without practices, a melody and harmony won't be formed. So, practice always. Practice makes perfect. "

Die SWO und SSW koncert

Just reached home. Overall, i think the concert was okay la. won't comment much on SSW because didn't really hear them, but they sounded quite okay from backstage. slacking there for the first half of the concert and crapping with my sectionmates.

Reached the concert hall over an hour late and still do nothing there, picked up my horn and went warming up with another section mate. then there is this german tourist that come talking to us, introducing himself from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in germany. both of us got a shock. kena sabo, i was introduce to him and told that i could speak german. geez..! i lost touch with that languge that i refuse to say a single word, not even a Guten Tag! haha.. really must recall all those stuffs. Got his namecard, ppl interested in Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra we can call this guy! haha.. anyway, can tell his really in culture and media, was shaking heads and giggle went SSW was doing their really horrible tuning! talking about Sprintime celebration mentioning he like the color of the songs blah blah blah.

Kk... enough of him. During concert, opening part was kinda joke to everyone where everything just screw up. too last minute liao. representing joel to collect award, initially they placed us along the edge of the stage, i joked with the SSW players, NICHOLAS for SALE! haiz.. displaying models ah? kk.. crapping. anyway, collect award from Dr Tony Tan.

MR JOEL GOH! PLEASE COME AND COLLECT YOUR LONG SERVICE AWARD!!!

Mmm... Festive Overture, i play until breathless.. seriously if u intend to breath don't bother playing it, coz every breath equals to missing a few bars. opening fanfare sounds good, very grand. other than that, the usual glitches and stuff la, bluffable la...

Euphonium rhapsody n Carnival of Venice - nothing to say la. was euphonium's show.

Star Wars Saga - To the horns was Shit Wars Saga, a massacre for all horn players. hahah... half dead when the song ended, who won? i think its the Dark Side. hahaha... Again another bluffable piece, the band literally skipped a bar in the middle of the song, haha.. hopefully to the audience was not obvious. hahah!!

Combine Songs - Bist Du Mei Meir(something like that) erm... okay la.. Phantom of the Opera, its a horrible arrangement. another bluffable piece.

overall... bluffable!

"musical"

i just came back from a really can tell for sure low quality business sense but with no musical sense local truly uniquely Singapore musical production. (Try saying this with one breath!) Got free tickets to PCK the musical. My truly honest opinion, its the worst musical i have ever been to! wait! i don't even want to call this a musical... it should be called something else...

seriously, i am begging all local tv producers, please do not attempt to produce a musical from a award winning tv programme. all tv programme are made for a reason, that is they are meant for TVs!

Location - Indoor Stadium wasn't bulit for musicals! if u want to hold some pop idol concert or ice skating show or some mass event in a sheltered area, please go ahead and do it in there, don't produce a musical in indoor stadium. Out of three sectors in the stadium, only one sector can make it for seating, which is the center section where you directly face the stage. I suffered almost three hours of pain turning my head and body to face the stage. Ouch!

Timing - for goodness sake, if you print 8pm on a ticket, please promptly start the show. don't wait till almost 30 mins later then start the show.

Sound & Lighting - okay i really have not much comments on this area, sound quality is passable, lighting was okay. jus make sure equipments use are able to withstand all kinds of abuse without making some electronic static sounds.. its really irritating to hear those kind of static noise while the performer speak.. geez!

Storyline - really a typical singapore quality story line.

Cast - I think they acted fine, lots of room for improvement. But i would like to comment on the dancers a.k.a extras. They dance pretty well... Act pretty well.. great job dancers!

Musicians - Okay, there was a live orchestra playing. Not bad..

Costumes - Looks good.. impressive!

Props - Erm.. please invest in more technology into it, its so unsightly to see lots of people pushing and pulling and carrying and setting up props between scenes. One or two is okay not everything!

Final note - please don't promote sponsors within the musical. can u imagine there is one part were this actor is singing meanwhile promoting its sponsors, wonder anyone notice that anot?

But still i would like (as i always do) give credit to all people who put in effort for making this musical though personally felt that its far from international standards. Credits to the Cast, peformers, dancers, musical, backstage crew blah blah blah....

what a blast!

Curtains close for 2nd (or should i say 3rd) concert for the year. Yupz! PnC is over. Frankly speaking, it wasn't a good concert. tempo was up for a few songs.. intonation suffered here and there... but i think the credits should go to everyone who put in the effort spending their own free time practising for this concert.

Great job to the horns for the horn choir! still sounded off balance, but hey, i think they should still feel proud for that part. My solo, was freaking scary but was totally overjoyed when its over. Phew! I think the touch for that solo was good... as my teacher always say, slow touch was my forte... someone was charmed by my playing.. hahaha! (Speechless n no comments!)

Shall not say much... still very exhausted from last night, attending Yuhua n RV alumni concert later.. hopefully is good.. good music can keep me awake otherwise...

some thoughts

alot of things struck me recently. ICT's student bodies are merging into ICT student council, had a really long meeting last monday with Brendon, society ppl, e-garage ppl. it become very clear to me that this 2 major student bodies have 2 different mindset. Well... of course, one is more fun orientated and the other is technology orientated. some problems 'sense of belonging' and 'volunteerism'. i jus wonder, when you join in a club or society, should you volunteer yourself to help out in events or be obligated to help out in events.

some dumb ass president of a SIG just complained that the main comm always have to do everything and he has the expectation of people volunteer themselve automatically to help out in events. his words really assure me that i have did the right thing when i play my role as a leader. Delegation is the word. Manpower are the hands of a leader.

How would you define a leader? What are the qualities of a leader?

Horn tutoring - Zhongqin the SAF hornist came down to tutor the section. i was late due to a meeting with the lectures. didn't play much. they were working on phantom n harry potter. previously he had taught some techniques for practicing the horns. The techniques he mention was exactly the same i tell all my hornies.. Again, i was assure that i did the right thing. =)

on a lighter note, my father fly to work today! haha... kk.. he is on a day trip to KL. Taking a flight there.. my mum tease him last night.. everybody has to either take a bus or walk to work or school while my dad flew to work. he will be back tonight. Hmm... how nice if i could fly while working...?

i am wondering, should i still pursue something that in the end i know i will still lose it. lost in thoughts...

kk... i am dying to own a dSLR.. Canon 350D or D70s. any sponsors? Dad? Mum? haha... totally love photography. SLRs... Lens... Flash... Tripod... Subjects.... argh!!! Opps! forget to develop sunday's photos...

IHP Experience (Week 9)

okay.. one more hour to go before i can say goodbye to my seat. today is the first time in weeks i faithfully stayed in school throughout. did some final editing of my poster for the ICT student council nomination. Overjoyed, my poster was a better design than the other guy. anyway he used my initial idea to design his poster. infringement of IP laws k... Lolz..

installed SQL server 2000 into my comp. but still blur about the database thinggy. more about how to create the physical database since the modeling part is done. my project again has come to a major obstacle. gotta find means and ways to overcome it! discipline..!! work at home, don't slack....

Buzzing off to band soon...PnC is right at the corner!

balloon hat fest!

was down at sentosa yesterday, enjoying myself at the balloon hat fest.. shuqun was participating in the festival alongside with its cousin bands compass n fuhua. coincidentally, this three schools were lined up side by side at the holding area n parade. shuqun sounded terrible during their performance... first time hearing them since SYF. their level of playing really justify their medal. i am just being frank.

took quite a number of shots.. but not very satisfied with the composition except for a few. yet to develop the photos.. shall see the outcome when its develop. but nice learning experience for outdoor photography. speaking of which, there is this photographer made me his part-time model. haha.. he's jus being creative. saw me leaning against a "balloon traffic light" holding a trombone. then he went to borrow a balloon hat and squeeze it on my head. snap snap. gonna track him down and ask for that photo. perhaps he is a clubsnapper .

weather was freaking hot n sunny.. and yesh! i manage to sell off another 4 ticket as promised. maybe can squeeze out another 4 more ticket sales.

not your daily train ride

yea.. just got back home from a make-up piano lesson. took longer than usual to reach home because my train broke down or should i say encountered a technical fault a few hundred meters from J.E station. Stopped there for about 10+ minutes... seeing the driver running to the back of the train then to the front again with another staff that appear out of nowhere.

then i realise there is another train right at behind us.. anyway, it was to push us into the station. and there it goes.. push us into the station. ding! i think the problem with the train is a serious one, everything has to be done manually, including opening of the doors, all the passengers can only alight from the front end of the train. you can't expect them to open all the doors rite?

anyway, i would like to commend on the great job done by the staffs for bring us back to the station and staffs at the station for the great job done in controlling the crowds, swiftly getting everybody on their way with out much delay. Great job!

Well... this is really not my daily train ride.

IHP Experience (Week 7)

stress time is finally here. Wednesday had a wake up session with supervisor. The past 6 weeks was classified under research! my god! do we need that long to do research? at least, my project partner and I was steered into the right course by our supervisor. was totally affected by what he said during the meeting..

attended the Database design workshop today, very important! database is basically the backbone of our system. after the workshop, lunch! then went down to my "office" setup the iPark system and gave it a run. we must know how to run the system. will be the ones doing presentation to VIP if there is a need to.. anyway, the whole set up is just beside me now. all the wires and devices... couldn't get the PDA connected to the portal. Geez!

meanwhile, designing our database also, i need my Database textbook! totally lost now.

finally realise that i have a missing component in my project, stress... oh shit.. some visitor walk past the "office" hahah! never mind.. we can really proof that we are doing IHP, just look at my table.. in a total mess.. can tell that we are really "working hard!"

oh well i think that is basically the end of this week.

updates...

3do ended on a high note.. ting! though there is hiccups and obstacles along the way but overall i pretty enjoyed myself organising this camp. planning comm went wild on the final day of camp, pulling stunts across campus. but luckly wasn't caught by the security guard.

dragon boat was fun despite not winning the race. it was tough race, nice experience, water splashing at my face for 300 m, my eyes were shut and i just keep on rowing. ICT won the best cheer, little effort has been put to prepare it, but when we cheer, we beat every other team flat down! Judging by our volume and energy, it really question us, did we just return from camp? (dragon boat was on the day after 3do camp) Lolz...!!! ICT staff team came in second on the finals, great effort lecturers! Geez.. i might consider taking up canoeing since i enjoy myself so much.

interaction games pretty fun also, being the head Game master at one of the game areana. tekan all the freshies, making them scream and shout, cheering away and bond all freshies together. well.. that's the purpose of interaction games rite, to interact. ICT director asked, are u tired? Yes i am, but its okay. I guess that the spirit of being a leader, never say die. agree? oh well, losing my voice... so i shall keep quiet for the next few days. zipped!

oh this week.. dedicated to 3do. final days to the camp itself. attended the email n sms application workshop today. application is build base on ASP.Net framework. pretty neat stuffs and hopefully i would be able to use it for my project.

viewd the original iPark System also, got some detail introduction and learn its operations. i iwill have to do a presentation of this system if there is a need to for any VIPs (Very Important Pigs!) Lolz.. must really kick start my project already.. i have been sitting on it too long. lots of research to be done and i hope i could finish my project at least by Week 18.

crazy...

damn it.. this past 2 weeks have been so packed with meetings.. not that i want it. and i am not complaining about it. but 3do is just 2 days away.. oh my god. my mind is in a total mess right now.. its 12.56 am and i need to wake up at 6 am coz its IHP day again. Widely awake now.. lots of issues running through my mind. schedule have been very very very tight this few weeks.. running in a endless marathon, drown under a pool meetings. good thing is that i don't have that awful breatheless chest pain.. but been hit by a series of gastric problems. argh!

NP Band.. the concert seems so blur to me. have never attended regular practice. i know people will question my disappearance AGAIN! but am i still in for the concert?i myself also rather blur about this issue. sheehs...

IHP.. only do up to user interface. looks like more modifications to be done to the interface.. finally took a peek at the iPark system yesterday. looks bloody complex.. total lost on my project now.. the path ahead AGAIN seems blur...

Piano... have yet to attend any lesson this month. have yet to have regular practices that will irritated the hell out of my neighbour which kindly enough yet to complain or they can't hear my awfully loud banging of the piano? exam is coming.. am i prepared? hmm.... terribly not! geez... the path ahead is blur...

Other issues.. should i drop the whole idea of that "thing"? or should i still continue to strike when the iron is still hot? should i put everything on hold till my mind is more clear and objective about things.. what are the objective of my life now? always been an objective person, but seems no more.. lost lost lost lost lost lost lost.. nothing is clear nothing is definite everything is nothing...

OH! I BETTER SHUT UP! argh! think i better go and sleep now! tomorrow won't be a better day. sheehs..!

IHP Experience (Week 4)

practically this week i have done nothing for IHP, the project currently came to a total halt. Wed was busy with preparations for the games trial run that happen the next day. Every bug(my comm members) were buzzing around preparing stuffs and other business...

Oh yah.. the 2 days ended with a game of water bomb. Wednesday's water bomb game was at its best, running up and down block 73. I think we packed about 150++ water bombs? Anyway, got soaking wet for that 2 days.

Thursday night received a SMS from Dawn(3DO PL) about the urgent meeting on which i manage to read it this morning at 6 AM!!!! Sheehs... why would i want to wake up at 6am? anyway, as usual, just come to school and sign in, rot for 2 hours till 11 am then meeting starts. The rest of the gang just left the clubhouse. i am waiting for time to pass so i can sign out. Alumni band is next, we are having performance tomorrow, and base on yesterday's rehearsal, we are not ready. My god! pulling out Lilo and Stitch from the repertoire.. my favourite..

Meeting the developers of the system that i am currently enhancing on monday, after 6pm. that means i have to cancel piano lesson again. Argh!!! Schedule is in total mess.....

ain't rotting further this week.. busy with 3do...

Singapore's very best..!

Pulau Ubin, a rustic island at its very best.

Drag myself off bed early this morning to follow my parents and relative to Pulau Ubin, always wanting to go there but still waiting for my classmates to organise a trip there. Who cares.. i go ahead first.. muahaha!

First impression, its a place that you would never ever find anywhere else in Singapore, a very laid back village where it present a lifestyle of the 60's. Stunned by all the shophouses as i make my way across "town" to an open court where mini vans await us to bring us to Chek Jawa. Shophouses are basically old and simple design, lifestyle is simple where you don't find any fast food, shopping mall or other things that could be found on the mainland, a perfect representation of the 60's. Vehicles that drive around "town" belongs to an era which could no longer be found on the roads of mainland.

Chek Jawa, a "nature reserve" on the eastern part of the island. A place where you can get really close to Singapore's marine life. Lots of marine life over here, but you can only discover this part during low tide. Did lots of shots today, will post it up as soon as post production is done.

I would love to return back there one day and trek around this rustic island on bike taking a closer look to this rustic beauty. Hopefully, this island will be kept as what it is today and development will take place in a minor scale as to keep the beauty of this island alive.

IHP Experience (Week 3)

Yes! Week 3 is coming to a close in a matter of minutes. Development of my system has started (Finally.....!) Begining to design the user interface but doing simple designs for now.. i need to refer to some of my notes before making more complex but user friendly interface design. I left all my notes at home...

My project partner and i just come to a decision to just do it regardless of anything said by our supervisor.. muahahah!!! don't care don't bother. Spent the whole day in ICT clubhouse (home of 3DO committee) all alone in here.. manage to grab hold of the key.. haha! steaming hot in here.. but still manage to cool myself down. but how am i going to cool my laptop down? poor baby...

Society Head of sports called me asking me if i am interested to participate in Dragon Boat competition. yup! dragon boat.. geez.. i just agreed to it.. hahah.. new experience... well.. more details to come.... gotta do some training...!

its an honor

its an honor playing side by side with the grammy award winner Nestor Torres. what am i talking about? just reach home from a concert with Nestor Torres performing as a guest player in Soka wind ensemble. Anyway, he is a flautist!

The concert is featuring him... and all his latin and jazz music. Pretty cool actually! enjoyed it alot have fun listening to him while fooling around in concert position. Geezz... i am losing my concert discipline. the audience were just beside me and i am fooling around. Haha!!! Must punish myself soon. Hahaha!!! But the latin and jazz beats just kept me going... lalala! who cares about concert discipline!

Am so tired now but couldn't sleep because of all the supper in my stomach currently undergoing digestion. Haha..!

SYF 3 & SSO

just got back from SSO's Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op.73 "Emperor" played by a russian pianist, Mr Valdimir Feltsman. He is a superb pianist! geez.. anyway the orchestra sounded good, maybe because i have yet to hear other orchestra play live before? Haha... The program sheet has a very nice picture of a french horn that is drawn with musical notes.. very nice! post it up another time.. got his autograph also.. haha.. kind of bo liao... but interesting! The horn players were fantastic, 2 only but they compliment each other very well.. and they have a sound of 4 players. wow.. Can't see is who.. fantastic tone.. tempted to take lesson from them.. hahaha!

On top of that, they played this piece called Central Park in the Dark. Pretty interesting piece, a modern composition. It depicts Central Park in NY at night... the quiteness of the park at night and all the jazz n broadway around it. Cool..! i want to hear that again! haha... could not get enough of orchestra music...

oh yah... congrats to Riverside, Unity sec. for getting their silver medal. happy for them! Especially riverside. Hmm... can see that they put in lots of effort in getting that medal. 2 years later.. lets improve further..!

SYF 2

i believe many people have heard and know about it.

Alumni's are upset and disappointed. Students itself have taken a big setback. I am just at a snap of a finger lost all mood to do the banner for 3d0 camp. but still put on a happy face infront of my comm members and continue to do my work.

My message to Shuqun Alumni's --> no matter what has happen, its part of history now, look forward to the future. If our brother/sister band falls, we should be there to help them up. If our brother/sister band succeed, we should be there to celebrate. Don't be dishearten and look forward to the future. Be a goodwill ambassodor in which ever band you perform in, show them the quality musicianship that shuqun has trained and mature in you!

My message to shuqun members --> don't be affected by what has happen and lead to a decision to quit from the world of music. Work hard n think positively, train up the future generations so that you all will in time shine again!

My blessing to Riverside and Unity too...

SYF

SYF is in full swing this week! heard lots of ups and downs since monday. the results for my cousin bands are pretty much expected. Compassvale - Gold, Zhenghua - Silver, Fuhua - Silver. Kudos to you all! They now do deserve a long break. Shuqun n Tanglin will be presenting at S.C.H today. All the best to them. Too bad, i am "grounded" by the school otherwise i won't mind spending the afternoon listening to them. Tomorrow is Riverside n Unity.

Well.... good luck to them!

Waiting for call from supervisor to give him a "presentation" on my idea. Did he call? maybe soon.. growing cobwebs now.. hahaha!

camp n bowling

Okay, i have stayed awake for more than 36 hours. Shuqun Band camp was so-so, except for the part that me and a few alumni's took all the slippers from the bunk and aglin it along the corridor and staircase. It was fun seeing all panicking when they wake up realising that their slippers was missing.

Manage to return home to freshen up and off back to shuqun again. Listen to Riverside, ZhengHua and Shuqun playing their SYF set and choice piece. Was impress with Riverside performance today but the other two school.. guess it wasn't your day.

Sent riverside back to their school when it was time for RS to leave. And returned back to Jurong east soon after.

Went for a bowling session, 111 pin falls.. pretty nice record for me today. Not a pro anyway. all thanks to Miss tan for making this happen.

Am now thinking of something...
Urgh! i need some... No! lots of sleep!

Anyway i do suggest you go for a brain check up. I think your brain neurones are not in proper working order.

skipping a beat

i don't know what wrong with me recently. my chest feels awfully painful at times and it seems like my heart has time to time skipped a beat. Oh no... sorry people if i have MIA, health seems to be the problem.

alumni band is improving, in size and in music. attendence today was so much much much better than the other 2 practices. hopefully this will stay on till concert and thai trip? Pesky as he can be, weida, my good pal from secondary days, asking ridiculous questions and irritates my ass off. haha... fun.

seen someone today, how i feel? hmm... don't know, don't care, don't bother.

losing my sense of humor, hmm... weida was kinda right. i think poly has made me a much more boring person because of work? or is it i am just running away from something?

FYP, to do the project terrence choo propose to me or develop my eTicketing system? both seem interesting enough, but which one should i do?

Imagine Cup? Hmm... let's imagine!

i think i am lost, walking around with no sense of direction. God, can guide me?

joy & disappointment

FYP - Got to know who is my supervisor, Mr Terrence Choo. Kinda guess what my project will be, but yet to find out the details of it. A bit of contridiction here, Mr Choo's email mention that he will provide more details in subsequent email and ask me to concentrate on my exams first, but on the other hand, Mr Dimuthu (the guy in charge of FYP) ask us to prepare project outline and TOR by March 15. Now... getting blur here... hahaha...

Another result was release, shall not mention it, it doesn't make any difference taking it twice or thirce.. there is consistency but no improvement.

UD assignment - Satisfied and happy.
PM assignment - Not satisfied but can live with it.

SA assignment - well.. i think i am satisfied with the grade dispite all that shit that has happen just to complete this assignment. From this assignment, i have learn, friends are divided into three catergories - autocratic friends, democratic friends and hypocrite beast. Sad to say some beast are turning their back against me, for what reason i don't know. Calling me a hypocrite? what about yourself? Creep?

jus another update

hmm.. where should i start?

okies, chinese new year was just like the past few years, basically boring, actually spend my time doing my assignments. Have datelines to meet so i have no choice.

valentines' day was a success! went to collect the flowers the day before and have all my planning comm member to come over my place and wrap the flowers. De-thorning was tough, but it was the mother of one of my planning comm who do it. Really appreciate her help! Thanks! The hardest part was to wrap 99 roses! hahaha... our initial order of 200 roses is not enough to meet the orders. so got to get extra roses. anyway, after wrapping the 99 roses, it naturally form into a heart shap. Aww.. so nice. haha.. the colors of the roses look so refreshing, and my house smell of roses.

On the actual day, the flowers are sold out within 3 hours? yeeps! totally overjoyed, at least i don't need to worry about having extra roses. Thanks to all people who have contributed to this event and make it a success!

suffering from occassional chest pain recently, i don't what happen, but it just slows me down. Ouch! taking rest these few days...

alumni prac, starting tml, it will take place every sunday until SYF is over. In the midst of preparing for our thailand trip this november. looking forward to the trip.

also looking at the possiblity of taking part in Imagine Cup a competition by Microsoft. Details are yet to be finalised.

Lots of events happening for ICT, especially the first few weeks of the new semester. All events are for the incoming cohort of year 1s.

okay i think that's what basically happened from the begining of the month till now.

Auf Wiedersehen!

mundane crap

so what going on recently?

firstly, OH has just finished, and i would say that its was a successful and fun event to work in. iTechOne 2005 was a great success, despite the many last minute details that we worked on. Spend the whole day packing, distributing n ransacking the extra goodie bags for hello panda biscuits. Haha.. feel so kiddie. I feel so guilty of making this old man pushing a trolley load of goodie bags from convention centre to LT 26, geez.. could'nt the lecturer in-charge find another young guy? well... at least i help him a little on the way. iPods were given away as first prize for the robocode competition, argh! it really hurts to see iPods given to students of competition not to the organisers. ouch! haha.. jus kidding, they deserve it. Jus give the organisers iBooks! Lolz!

secondly, 2 assignments were completed, so there is 1 assignment on going now and i have yet to reach the 25% mark of completion. oPpps! 3 more assignment on waiting list, but they are coming real fast...! anyway, i have strong feeling that someone is calling me names regards to my attitude la! anyway, i just wish that he/she will stop calling me names and move on. if you read this and felt offensive, approach me and we will trash things out AGAIN!

I don't know if its me or everyone else, people are acting strangely towards me, as though i am a pain in the neck or something like that. or perhaps i am just being sensitive. people from band(s) to classmates and friend(s).. that's weird.

And recently i have learnt another painful lesson, after teaching for a few years, i think i have done a fair job in that. But i have heard from vivien that one of our junior have just stab me in the back making awful remarks about me. Thanks for telling me and letting me know that there is such an idiot on earth! Very sad and disappointed, if i knew it earlier, i shall not put in much effort on her, but again its the duty of a teacher/senior to bring the best out of everyone.

Moving on, my website is in desiging phase and so.. it should be online soon. That's all for now, Tata! and good nites!

New Year Concert

Great! SWO concert is over, comments? hmm.. i think we sounded pretty okay, somehow i felt certain substance of music is missing. other than that i think i enjoyed myself through out the concert. Especially the horn trio in found in the 2nd movement of clarinet concerto, the horns did great! thanks alot! i think the effort of spending hours of playing those 30 bars together didn't go to waste, especially when i have to wake up early one sunday morning just to rehearse that 30 over bars with desmond ng. Smiles were on everyone's face the moment we end the passage. all break a cold sweat but well... all i could say is, a thumbs up from desmond. Well done guys!

For the other 2 bands that joined us for the concert. Well done, they sounded pretty good, i think they are going to score in the upcoming SYF again. The shear size of the bands just freak me out! hahaha.. they are so so so big.. the whole stage is filled up especially dunman high! compared to SWO.. geez!

My parents attended the concert, hahaha.. heard from my brother that my mum fell asleep. perhaps they are not used to the repertoire of music we are playing. i think somehow they still prefer shuqun's repertoir. oh well... shall ask them to come for NP's concert next time round. perhaps thats the level of repertoire they are used to. =)

Again, its another fun concert i had!
