Seriously, i don't even know when is dumpling festival and only know bunch of wrapped glutinous rice placed on the dinning table tempting me to just eat them by the bunch. Argh.. Watch those calories!
Alright, I thought it was just a simple round trip up to eastern side to grandma's place to pick up some tasty dumplings for my family until I have been arrowed to make delivery runs to 2 other places and still have to make it home in time to change and head back to school. Oh well... after riding on cab for 45 mins and tens of dollar poorer, all dumplings are delivered. My cousins must have been stunned to see me on a weekday. haha!
Now i can't wait to savour those dumplings. Bedtime is just minutes away (wait! let me catch a few games from the french open first. lol!) and to consume it now would mean undoing all the effort spend on court for 3 hours of tennis in addition to extra hours of training.

The End
The final week in camp couldn't end off any better! Medical check was swift this time round, in and out of the doctor's room within 90 seconds. amazing! compared to last time when i have to return back to the medical center 3 days in a row just to get the medical cert. =D
Helped out with some NDP stuffs since i have nothing for the day. First half of the day was just supervising work ensuring rehearsal ground is properly marked out. It just don on to me then the scale behind the scene work required to pull of such a show annually. All i can say now is there is many rehearsal ground which requires the same exact markings. Ouch to those who have been painstakingly marking them.
Spend some time with one of the performing schools to do support. It never easy wearing uniform and leading a big bunch of sec 1 kids, guiding them through the choreography, assisting the choreographer. A good test of one's patience not to yell and scold them for the good reason that i am just a uniformed personnel. Of course young kids being so ignorant, called us NCC cadets. Ouch! Never felt so insulted before. Oh well.... Kids.. =)
It all ended with a good round of board and card games with a bunch of guys called the Pink Panther Force (PPF for short) don't ask me why they are called that. All the jokes and quirky ideas from them really made the day shorter and less painful to pass. Great company.
Well now the pink card is rightfully mine, 2 years of liability dutifully served. Another chapter has closed with a new one waiting to be written. Lots of memories and experiences, the good ones will be retained and the bad ones well... let it serve as a good reminder of why things should never turn out this way again. Can't wait for the time again when its time for my section to once again head out into the fields and fight another day. =) ORD!

mundane monday
Dark clouds, never ending rain, a short trip back to school to pick up a file and walking around aimlessly around central area. It drizzled while i drift around but heck the rain drops trickle down on me. Oh what else can a bored person do on a boring day. Only a short burst of panic from a missed call of an awfully familiar number. A number that can't be called back. Only to find out that its the camp admin people giving me a gentle reminder to settle some administrative stuffs. Phew..
Okay, seriously, the rain is cooling down the weather but its disrupting my running plans, my tennis plans. imagine all the outdoor stuffs i could do without the rain. but sometimes would love to get drench.
Can't wait for Friday to come. Once and for all, I am done with what i am suppose to commit. I am done with the place which i called home for the a year plus. Filled with lots of memories, lots of experience. Do it once never twice. But with a blink of an eye turned into something that is totally unfamiliar with, the people, the management. =( Well, only consolation will be to have a fellow friend where we aim to slack like never before. =D.

Name Tent
I must have been seriously bored at home over the weekend to do something like this. Limited type of instrument for the the brush design but at least there is FRENCH HORN and PIANO! =) University and School name goes in line with the corporate image as stipulated by the school right down to the font type and color.
Trying to go for a renaissance design but don't know if i have achieve that yet. And the border still doesn't feel right. Haiz... Inspire me please. Might remove the border design on one side. This is going to be a two-sided name tent by the way, so can switch back and forth. Color choice limited. Black font against white background to make the name visible from far. Can't wait to see the final product. Getting it print and laminated soon!

Changing lifestyle
Its another change of lifestyle again back to the good old days at my unit. To me it came as a shock on certain rules laid out, but think about it again, to fulfil my liability after uni will just hamper advancement to my career. 28 days. 17 May 2009 I am waiting for you!
But I am sure glad that my presence was a welcoming one because I play a tiny role in training the next batch of engineer dudes before they officially go on course and I will transit back to civilian life.
Rather lost at how to kick start OCIP meeting. At least I am still able to make it for symphonia's practice, 3 practice before the band goes on a break but no way there is going to be any because Sydney is fast approaching and I want to be prepared for it and not work at the eleventh hour. Sectionals.. Tutorship... Exco... How? *Lost..
Back at home to pick up my stuffs before booking in (this term sounds so familiar urgh!). 2 bags stuffed with things, comparatively lesser than before but still two bags. Boohoo.... Oh well, till the weekend when i see my lappy again....

Memories from the past
Attended my bro's speech and prize giving day and it brought back lots of memories from the past. Okay, the principle's speech today was a mega disater, communication course could really benefit him, since he is a PRINCIPLE! And G.O.H wasn't any better to0. Ask to give a speech in the end i see a powerpoint presentation. Argh.. turn off! Zzzz.... But yeah, applaude the effort for the students to make everyone feeling important to this event. *Clap clap clap!
Back to me. Every year my school's prize giving day is a fix event on the band calendar, and always we were asked to put on some kind of main performance because we were then the strongest arts group in the school.
Still remember during Sec 1 we have to do a dance routine with the band playing Carribean hideaway and every saturday after sec 1 practice we were just rehearsing away then came the "audition" to pick the best dancers to put up the show. Well, i was choosen to play in the main band so phew... escape! Haha.. but it was fun times.
Sec 2 did a display band performance so do lots of marching, fiddling with the horn, playing on the go.. and get super tan because always practice on parade square then when kena punishment is hands down on the scorching hot tar! so on and so forth..
Yeah yeah, every year get some top award for some subject like D&T (still wondering how i got it?) and my fav subject Geo! Proudly on display is the award for Outstanding CCA award as DM of the band. haha! =P Okay, hands down on my bro for getting top 3 in 'N' Level. Now, please do well for O's.. =)

School's out!

finally at the end of 13 weeks. Currently still have one assignment due on Monday 2359 so its back to school on weekends (as usual) again. =(. and can't wait for this round of MAD exams to be over. It's really a pain knowing that there is 5 papers on 3 consecutive days. Ouch!
Alrights. Cleared of all presentations and all but one project. BGS presentation totally owned it, CT project i hope it can grow further. DM presentation really not worth mentioning. Mugging mode on, chiong for the finals. Need to save my grades... *urgh!
Okay, my first summer holiday is round the corner. A few exciting plans ahead. Hopefully my application for early resumption is approve in time (after a blunder made in misreading an email) and i can serve out the remaining days and offically ORD (**wonder will i get my testimonial?)
Planning on a backpack cum photo-journ trip to Bangkok. To use up my already paid for, cost accumulating budget airticket that is more expensive than what i can get at SIA now. I will print screen the latest emailer and post it up here soon. If possible, i will go, otherwise forfeit it la, not economically viable to keep it. Never fly budget airlines again.... NEVER!
Sydney is a GO! Excited for Aussie! G'day mate! =D

A moment worth sharing
An incident happen today as i rush for class. It was pure carelessness that without warning i dropped my ez-link card while pulling the matric card from my pocket to gain entry into the school building. Could have been while i was waiting to cross the road or waiting at the traffic light.
So being a constant practice to print out lecture slides, i know, save the environment, but i want to take notes down mah! I send the file for printing and payment by ez-link card. To my surprise, i couldn't find the card in my pocket given that i clearly put the card in when i exit from the train station. Well... after searching for awhile i deemed the card lost. "Sianzness" sets in throughout the class.
Meanwhile, one kind soul tried calling me but i didn't pick up the phone. Until i received a message to call back that person which is actually a friend. Called back and to find out that my ez-link card was with her. Thank god! Thank you my friend!
Still can't believe that I am that lucky to recover back my card as i am prepared to bear the replacement cost. Perhaps is luck, but i think it was god's blessing and answer my prayer that the card can be found. It did! Thank you lord!

A Good Section
There was a buzz of activity to prepare us for something important coming up soon within my section and i was looking back at stuff we do in ns, was just wondering what is the essence of a good section. Alright, I have to exclude the fact that we bunk in together for almost 2 years of our lives, share the pain and torture, the fun and silly moments out field and overseas.
Could it be we never second guess each others action, each individual knows their task ahead and accomplish it without a doubt, take initiatives and motivate to help each other because loads we carry were unimaginably heavy knowing we still have a long walk ahead? Of course there are many other factors that made us who we were then.
I guess the real question now is, will i able to find such a level of teamwork in what i am doing today? If not, how would i be able to recreate the same level of efficiency and quality of work. Hmmm.... scratch heads..
Okay, back to preparing fieldpack and a variety of "showcase" items. Gosh... i will be stuck with this for another 10 years.
*now now... where is my helmet?

Being a professional
obviously something bad has happen to prompt me into writing this. Alright here goes....
What's is true professionalism? In my personal opinion, professionalism is to be in the position to hand issues rationally for groups, committees or organization that one represents. Being a professional means putting oneself behind which ever organization one represents.
I tend to agree that there is a possibility of conflict in interest when working in a management level. Its a good mix of different character, personalities and behaviour. But when there is a conflict or problem arises, a professional should always take the stand of the organization itself especially so when the position acts as a voice for the entire organization to stakeholders.
It irks me so when there are unethicial people around, it irks me so when there are irrational people around. Yes, humans have emotions and of course the freedom to express it but when coming to addressing issues that affects the entire organization and personal, it is up most important that personal issues should never mix with work issues. Same goes to decision making.
Thus, organizations around the world have written code of conducts which are standard guidelines when come to handling professional issues. Many have spelt out that work comes before anything else. The might of many is the strength of one. Coming together to perform effectively as leaders, i wonder how far have we gone?

hitting some green balls
I wish i have the power to slow time down. haiz...
Had a good run around town on thursday. I guess that's one of the perks of school being centralised. total distance is more than 4km i think, running through fort canning, clarke quay and back. And later on gym for awhile more before crashing out on the train home and nearly missed my stop. I applauded those people for blocking the door when i tried to alight even when i politely say "excuse me!". Wonderful eh? for a moment wonder where have kindness gone too.... Oh well, perhaps its time for me to train towards my first 10km race. I don't know what races are install in the coming months, but if training is done progressively i think its good time to sign up for one.
Tennis clinic is really helping me alot! thank you my lord! Even though having free coaching last time, i realized there are still quite a number of errors in my strokes. Perhaps its the language barrier that causes me to not fully understand what he is trying to say. Well, the strokes are correcting and the double backhand gives me lots of control on backhand serves and there is power in driving the ball down towards the opponent! Now is to have lots of self-practice to make sure it all comes naturally when i play next time. Hmm... (*look at my timetable) maybe one of those slots when i am free i will head down to kallang to play against the wall.
Overall, its good to get out for some sun. I think exercising regularly complements studying. Students tend to ground their butts to the chair and the only part that moves are their eyes reading left to right, line by line. Of course it breaks the monotony of studying. Well i just want to get tan that's all. hahah!

the new term
its going to be another 13 weeks of nightmare again. I already have 3 out of 4 assignments dished out to us. the IS mods are pretty much a repeat or to me a refresher course on what has been taught in poly.
introductory economics seems very interesting. haha! and now when i am seeing things from econs point of view. Opportunity cost! the opportunity cost of writing this entry is an additional hour of sleep. BGS well, into our first meeting and presentation is due week 11 which means there is loads of head time for us. Hopefully can complete the first draft and slowly tweak on the minor details in time for presentation.
actually just came back from band camp. The concert repertoire seems to be looking good, and now have to prac on radetzky march if the horn ensemble is going to perform. Good thing the drinking session didn't took place or i really wonder what level of damage would have been done. haha! And i didn't get much sleep. But well, had fun with the section and the band. the short ball game session behind national museum was fun, haha but didn't really get to work out. Yeah, got a glimps of fort canning park. Okay, a little mountain turtle since the place is just an escalator ride away. Shall explore one day.
Slacking 101. Today's sectionals was fruitful because we slack throughout as in my "lesson plan". Well, lips are next to numb and with a full band later on. haha! impossible to survive if we don't rest. Absolutely amaze at others energy level at 3am, sleeping bag race and sushi roll. OMG, i just not into such things at this hour. Gave NP band concert a missed, well, i am just to shagged out and was stoning all the way back home. What a year.. it's sure good!
Yeah! let me start of by wishing everyone Happy New Year 2009!
indeed i have to agree with a greeting from a friend that 2008 was filled with lots of fun and excitement and of course there were moments of ups and downs too. Sure, the moments in camp will be dearly missed as we all have completed or "completed" our service. The sun-rise moment viewed on jurong island, i still must say simply breath-taking. The man-hunt, obviously not a fun thing to do but when duty calls, you have to.
Taiwan was the first highlight of the year, but it didn't get off to a good start as i flew off with a heavy heart but gradually, the mountains & valley and training wear it off. One day i shall go back there travelling round the island to visit and revisit places unexplored. R&R simply the best, let our hairs down and just have loads of fun before returning home and especially the comforts of my own bed. whahaha!
NDP was definitely the next highlight. Given a choice between guard duty and NDP, i will still pick NDP anytime. I am no big patriot but its a blast helping out as much as i possibly can to this big event up till the last day of official service which coincide with national day. fun-pack packing is sheer hard labour but the jokers around know how to mess around while getting the quota met.
The moment i have long been waiting for. the last highlight, to start Uni. Its all together a different lifestyle and experience. Late night of meetings and work, and mugging like i have never mug before for an exam. Geezz! And i get to actively play the horn again. Weeeeh! The first sem, tough and challenging but we sure do know how to add a little element of fun into school work to make it not monotonous. But oh dear, the amount of alcohol consumed the past 3 months surely account more than what i drank in years before 2008. hahahha!
yeah, there were bad moments too but i swore not to let these affect myself and as a result a happier life perhaps? Still gripping with the fact that my uncle has left us more than a year. i wish i can share what's going on. He will still be my inspiration and guide through life. =) God Bless.
2009 will be a busy year ahead. School work will begin to peak with heavier mods that i will be doing this year. band-wise, concert in feb and europe trip in august. i just need to get the instruments purchased and audits done. arrggghhh!!! let me rant for awhile. everything will be back to normal. hahahaha!

indeed i have to agree with a greeting from a friend that 2008 was filled with lots of fun and excitement and of course there were moments of ups and downs too. Sure, the moments in camp will be dearly missed as we all have completed or "completed" our service. The sun-rise moment viewed on jurong island, i still must say simply breath-taking. The man-hunt, obviously not a fun thing to do but when duty calls, you have to.
Taiwan was the first highlight of the year, but it didn't get off to a good start as i flew off with a heavy heart but gradually, the mountains & valley and training wear it off. One day i shall go back there travelling round the island to visit and revisit places unexplored. R&R simply the best, let our hairs down and just have loads of fun before returning home and especially the comforts of my own bed. whahaha!
NDP was definitely the next highlight. Given a choice between guard duty and NDP, i will still pick NDP anytime. Bandits @ MINDS
as a follow up activity to LTAW '08, the bandits went down to MINDS school (pardon me if i spelled wrongly) @ Woodlands. Helped out with their Christmas party like blowing balloons, moving tables and chairs and manning their game station. Not forgetting about interacting with them and learning more about this group of people.
First impression. I thought the party will involve childrens but it actually turns out to be a party for adults. Yes, these are the people who work in places like KFC as cleaners or those who help pack the earphones for our SQ flights. Some were non-responsive to people, some were quite responsive to us while others were just well... not having a good mood that day.
I find it hard to believe at first that they are in the perhaps the same age group with me but only have the intellect of a children. It leads me to wonder how do they go about doing their day-to-day activities. For example, the game station requires coupons to play. The coupons are like money and it teaches them how to buy things. For us, it becomes second nature to use money with out much difficulity, but for them it sure seems hard to understand what a dollar is.
Well sometimes we need to nudge them a little to get them to throw a ball or maybe do some hidden stuffs so as to give them that sense of achievement like "accidentally" falling bowling pins just so they can be rewarded for their efforts. I applaude the other volunteers (non-smu) who are there weekly to help them despite being weighted by studies and not forgetting those who spend their careers just to help them.
My take away. I strongly believe that there are still many that needs our help. We just need to remember not to take what we have for granted. We go about doing simple task without difficulties but there are people who find it hard to do the same. Since we are able-bodied people, we should always stretch out our hands and help those in need. This will be one motivation to why i should head the next candle of the soul project. Perhaps the band should do a charity performance for them? lol...

Beyond 65km its only a dream
Took part in Let's Take A Walk 2008 stretches the past 2 days. It is a community service event and the main beneficiary was MINDS School. The entire team signed up for the 100km extreme walk which cover a few area in Singapore and we explored some places that we students won't normally go. For a start, post-band prac activity of wine, food and lots of chit chats the night before wasn't a good idea even though we all enjoyed that session. haha!
Flagged off at 8am and off we go! Head down towards the Southern Ridges, turn westward towards Science Park and Holland Village, Botanical Gardens, up north towards MacRitchie and Bishan before heading eastwards to Kembangan, Tampines and Pasir Ris.
Tampines was the 50km mark, which most of the team decide to fall out. No they are not losers, i really admire them as they are girls and walk long distance without any training. What got them going was really sheer determination.
By then, only 3 guys left standing (including me). This has no longer become a challenge against the elements but rather against ourselves. The muscle fatigue level has hit an all time high, and every step we took its pure agonising pain! Slowly, we make our way past the IKEA Tampines into Pasir Ris park for our 60km mark. By then, its already 1.30am Sunday. Made our way towards Downtown east to stock up on water supply.
Approx 65km mark. Our legs crumble and we could not finish the walk because the every next step we take the pain is beyond description. The remaining 30+ km hugs the eastern coast which made up of endless stretch of road and beaches before ending in school.
I may have done many route marches, but this walk is a totally different story. This is done purely without any training. Past experiences help, switch off your mind and just keep on walking. Quite proud of myself to accomplish this distance but now its only a dream to complete the remaining. Of course not forgetting to applaude to the rest too! Let's Take a Walk 2009 anyone? =D

Post exams
And so Term 1 end in a flash. Perhaps its due to the heavy workload i have that kept me working non-stop the moment i wake up till i decide to crash out for the night. What's work without fun eh? Definitely there lots of fun moments especially during LTB meetings where we will brainstorm and work out the fine details and then end of with camwhoring moments and when meetings are held at hostel... Woots! TAU HUAY!!!
IS mods are heavy and it isn't like what used to be during poly. But okay, with a little help from fellow poly mates, we still survive through SIS. Just make do with less sleep and fun time, and perhaps spending time in school during public holidays completing projects. Wahahahha!
Okay, exam period, 2 papers only but spend almost everyday in SRs and GSRs till late mugging. So last paper ends on Monday, and Tuesday start on JAVA course. Refresher for me, got clearer picture on certain key programming concepts. hope it will come in handy next term. Yeah, 5 days course "chiong" to complete in 4 days so my holidays officially start yesterday! Woots..!
Suppose to be in Bangkok now, but because of the airport siege, our group decide not to go even though i am still keen to go and well, perhaps witness what's going on in there despite the dangers. Well, one lesson learnt is not to travel budget, its my first flight and didn't manage to take off smoothly. The "no-refund" policy + political crisis doesn't go well together. haha! Well, we just have to see things from different stakeholder's point of view.
Without the "no-refund" policy, well, they would probably have nothing to cover the cost of operating that flight and in the end cost are passed to consumers and will budget airline be low-cost? From a tourist point of view, there is nothing we can do about the crisis there, its just unfortunate. But hey! we can still travel another date, but whether i will return back to that city third time round, well... let's leave it to another day to decide..
So meanwhile, there are still stuffs to do at home, in school. Shall have more tennis sessions, sparring with another player or against a training wall and GYM!!!. Keep fit, stay healthy. Lots of meeting, sectionals for band. *Yawns.... =D till then....
